Day 5 of 10 Writing FayTown Calling
I had nine sections to go over and I did five of them, including one that I had no idea what to do with and had to make from scratch. It went well and I’ve added about 5,000 words to the story, as well as moving three of the sections from Mess or Needs Work to Happy. One of the five is still Mess (because it’s five in the morning and I’m tired) and the other is Missing Something. No idea what, but that’s the reason for the label.
I was very happy with the sections I moved to Happy. I was, well, let’s just say I was concerned with their quality. That’s where most of my work went today, making them better, making them flow.
Tomorrow’s goal is to complete the rest of what I wanted to do today. It will probably included looking at this last section, moving it from Mess to Happy, as well as the next four sections. I foresee a possible obstacle with one of them (because I have nooooooo idea what to put there) so I might leave it as Missing Something if it bogs me down too long.
Beyond those, I have 2-3 more I’d like to dive into tomorrow. Those will be tricky. One, I know I can because it’s pretty much written, it’s just knitting together the continuity. The two others, one is just a general idea that more is needed in the story, the other is dependent on whatever else I include and needs a lot of expansion.
Beyond that is where the story gets dicey. I’ve changed a lot over the past few drafts. Some of it made it into that last bit of the story, some of it didn’t, which means a lot of time consuming cleanup work. Worse, a lot of it is unwritten. I have at least one climax I’ll have to write and several of my Big, Epic Moments. On the one hand, I’m over halfway done and have five of my ten days left (including the weekend where I’ll have my best time), on the other, the hardest work is ahead.
We will see in my next update how far I get.
