NaNoWriMo 2023 Update
As predicted, I did not update as I went, so I’m doing so now, recapping how it went.
For Nov I produced 36,408 words. ~14k short of the 50k goal I think you are supposed to have for NaNoWriMo but whatever. The whole point of the event is to get you writing and that’s what I did.
To hammer that point home, let’s go through the broader numbers.
In addition to the words above, I had written 39,435 in Oct. preparing for NaNoWriMo, for a total of 75,843. On top of the words I had before that, I now have 116,710 toward the next Virgil novel.
I feel pretty damn good about that.
I have a lot more work to do. The words I have so far make up most of a pretty decent first draft but all of that has been freewritten. I just let it go and poured words on pages. Much of it doesn’t make sense, it doesn’t tie together, it has broken narratives, characters are in and out, the dialogue in particular is terrible, and there are still pieces I haven’t finished.
Still, significant progress.
I have gone back and forth on the next book quite a bit. Originally it was going to be Pilfered Souls, which is still happening just not, you know, next. Then I had the idea to do another story in between called Blood Pact (or Born…or Bought…or Bound…I never made up my mind). I struggled with that, a lot and for a lot of reasons, mainly because of how I wanted to order the series and when I wanted certain events to happen. I think, too, the plot was never what I wanted it to be.
This book is an amalgamation of several of those ideas, plus a few I have always had, called Tangled Weave.
Believe me, it’s the next one, and I am super excited about it.
